For the love of design
Interior design student Khushbu Dhoka’s flair to create came in handy at Decorex, the world’s biggest interior design festival that takes place in London. A student of INIFD Academy of Interiors, Khushbu was one of the many design students from all over the world who flaunted their design skills at the event.
Khushbu, along with the other design students, had the incredible opportunity of assisting international designers at the event.
Her passion for interior design has been so strong that she decided to live with her aunt from the age of 18.
“Since there were no interior design colleges in Raichur, which is my hometown, I had to come to Hyderabad to study. I do not regret my decision at all,” she says, adding, “I like to explore the world in my own way and the history of every design interests me.”
In order to get selected for the event, Khushbu had to design a drawing room as per the client’s specifications. The client wanted a drawing room in modern classical style to entertain guests.
Sharing her experience, she says, “The first thing I had to do is understand the modern classical style.” She also studied the traditional style in order to steer clear of it while designing.
According to Khushbu, an interior designer draws inspiration from his/her surroundings. She got to work under the marketing director of Decorex Mel Smith and refers to it as a wonderful experience. Khushbu thoroughly enjoyed her experience in London, which she believes gave her the opportunity to be independent. Most of all, she loved the fact that she could dance anywhere!
“In this field, we need to be aware of all the details of the design including thorough knowledge on the materials. We have to imagine how the outcome would look before and then implement it,” she concludes.
