Mad meme'ries
How often do you find yourself chuckling away to a side-splitting meme, which is eerily relatable and true? Well, join the club of the ever-increasing meme fan base in the city! Be it the popular Be-like-bill memes that quite grew into a viral sensation of sorts, or the current IPL RCB batting vs RCB Bowling and how the-rain-has-finally arrived-memes, the city’s young and jovial folk certainly know how to take a joke, and make some too!
‘True feels’!: “ The current rage is about promoting Kannada and football. 'The rains’ memes have also been getting a lot of attention because everyone's been talking about it. Also as a city, it’s actually absurd and hilarious that many inhabitants don’t know the language in spite of staying here for so long. So that’s a topic that’s popular. Similarly, the currently trending memes on our page are Ond Kelsa Maadi memes, which mostly attributes a particular celebrity to a quote, followed by a hilarious reply in the language,” says Deva Oojha, a 26-year-old admin of the Bengaluru meme page with over 78,614 members and counting.
Adding to how different things invoke laughter in different people, he adds,"There are a few classic subjects like the inhabitants of the city muttering Kannad gothilla or probably our CM’s quirks at assemblies, or, better yet, the traffic woes that always find a sizeable number of likes. The idea behind coming up with memes is not just limited to entertainment. In a way, it’s seen as the shortest, quickest and easiest way to put a message to discuss relevant issues with a tinge of tongue-in-cheek wit.”
Giving us a peak into the increasingly large number of features that have entered the scene in the recent times, Raj Chawla, an admin of Bangalore Memes, a popular meme sharing page quips, “Since memes are visual-based, many of us are banking on the sheer variety of meme templates that offer endless choices of how to troll particular topics — the most popular ones being giving directions to people in the city, and the Shivajinagar and Frazer Town memes!”
Stating how the idea is to get more people to develop a connect with the most popularly touched upon topics, Raj opines, “The reason why memes have met with an overwhelming response is because we actually live in an interesting city with so much to talk and rant about! So making a funny meme is a delightful respite in the midst of routine work."
