Going mouth full!
We all know about Joey Tribbiani’s love for food from the TV series F.R.I.E.N.D.S — and MCC foodies organised a fun food event around his character! Titled ‘Everyone’s A Tribbiani’, abbreviated as E.A.T., the eating competition organised by the Communications Department of Madras Christian College was a super hit in the campus. With fast eating challenges for a huge array of dishes and drinks, the competition saw about 500 participants.
Elaborating more about E.A.T., the co-ordinator of the event, Alankit Thapa, shares, “We organise many formal events and lectures in college. Informal and fun events except cultural programmes, are a rarity. Hence we came up with the fast eating competition.”
Sharing that one of the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. fans in the class came up with the title, Alankit adds, “It was so spontaneous and catchy and all students could relate to the Tribbiani-concept of food. He doesn’t share food, he loves food!.”
Another student Supraja adds, “Many people are dieting the wrong way and going on zero sugar diets and are not eating right. That’s not the purpose of diet. At E.A.T. we had a mix of really healthy food and fast food too. But we were indeed surprised and shocked that many people actually drank juices within five to ten seconds and finished medium size pizzas under five minutes!”
With drinks like pumpkin juice, bitter gourd juice, tamarind juice, corn and more on the healthy side, and grilled chicken, idly-vada, noodles, rice and pizzas to balance out on the tasty side, there was a huge array of different dishes. “Every eating competition in hotels has usually just one variety of food. We had different dishes and it was more fun. Since the rewards were food coupons, all foodies took the competition seriously,” Alankit adds.
E.A.T. also invited the professors and the non-teaching staff like security guards and sanitation department workers, which doubled the fun as the students cheered while the elders munched on the parottas and meen curry in speed.
