Delightful beats
Rhythms swung and strode to beget a musical extravaganza, capturing the hearts of the audience. Renowned ghatam artist Vidwan Tripunithura N. Radhakrishnan and party performed before music lovers and set the tone of the day. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra, organised the concert, named Ghata Laya Tharangam, at the Sardar Patel Sabha Griha on Tuesday as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the institution. The maestro has completed half a century in his prestigious musical life. In his long and fulfilling musical career, he has shared the stage with numerous legends. Radhakrishnan's debut performance was at the very tender age of 10. Within a very short span of time, he conquered the hearts of ardent music lovers and became a sensation in and around Tripunithura and Kochi.
Following the footsteps of his father Vidwan Narayanaswami, he succeeded in reducing the distance between the performer and the audience, allowing them to speculate every single emotion produced throughout the rhythmic moments. The performance got off to a start with the rendition of Gambhiranata raaga, mallari by Radhakrishnan. It was followed by a composition by renowned artist Muthuswami Dheekshitar's Hamsadhwani raaga, aadithaalam, Vaathaapi composition. The audience was entertained with the rendition of Thyagaraja by Renjith Radhakrishnan. Artists like Attukal Balasubramaniam, Vivek Shenoy, R. K. Renjith, Kalainath, Tripunithura N. Gopalakrishnan, Kavil Unnikrishna Warrier, Tripunithura Krishna Kumar and Dharma Theerthan and Sachidananda Pai supported Radhakrishnan.
The musical evening was a perfect blend of various musical instruments like flute, violin, mridangam etc. incorporated with vocal. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp, followed by the welcome address by Suma Gopinath. C. A. Venugopal C. Govind, chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, honoured the artist by draping him with a ponnada. E. Ramankutty, director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra; G. Gopinathan, vice-chairman; Jaya Jacob, research coordinator; Renuka N. Menon and Sukumari Menon, education officers and other dignitaries were present graced the occasion.
