College canteens form the heart of every campus. It becomes a student’s favourite haunt when they want to bunk, or when they need to grab a quick cuppa to keep themselves awake through endless lessons. These youngsters tell us about their college canteens and what are the best things on the menu on the campus.

St. Joseph’s College of Commerce

Located at the heart of Brigade Road, this college houses a bustling canteen on its ground floor where students love spending time when they get a break between classes. Joff Thomas, an international business student says, “Our canteen is loud and crowded as most students here are foodies. The meals for breakfast and lunch are priced at Rs 35 so we prefer eating lunch or breakfast here at the canteen itself.” The special chicken biryani and the chapati with chicken curry, priced at Rs 50, are huge favourites among students!

Jyothi Nivas College
This popular all girl’s college has a brilliant canteen that serves great meals, which comes with steaming hot rice, sambhar, papad and a vegetarian side. Charishma VA, a JNC student says, “The meal is priced at Rs 25 and it is worth much more than its cost. The canteen panders well for our hunger pangs and is considerate of the student budget.” The dosas and Chinese dishes here are very appetising! She adds, “The masala and paneer masala dosa are absolutely delicious and cost about Rs 35, each.” This college takes the prize for being the most cost efficient!

Nitte Meenakshi College of Engineering
The canteen at this college is one where conversation flows easily and friends can just be with each other. Sabira Mirza, a third year civil engineering student says, “Our canteen incorporates varied cuisines to suit diverse tastes. The menu features North and South Indian meals along with sandwiches, snacks and desserts throughout the day,” she explains. The campus also houses a variety of food joints and Sabira highly recommends the dabeli from Srinivaas Foods, the Maggi from Maggi Station, as well as the vada sambhar and gobi fried rice from the canteen.

Christ University
This college has small kiosks that students can easily access near the different blocks during their breaks, along with various canteens that cater to the booming crowd. The honey bun which is priced at Rs 15 and the chicken noodles priced at '60, is a popular favourite among the students. Priyanka Jha, a psychology student personally finds the food at these kiosks enjoyable. “The menu has been set well keeping in mind the diversity of the people at college. You can find almost any type of cuisine within the campus. The Maggi, chicken rolls and sandwiches are perfect for a quick bite before heading back to class!” she says.

Jain University Center for Management Studies
The canteen here is an idyllic spot for the students at this college to satisfy their munchies. Pranav Rao, a student says the canteen caters to the student’s needs for a quick bite, with a cookie and coffee, being one of the cheapest things on the menu. “Students come and go through the canteen all day long and a few opt to hang out with friends as they get a bite to eat. The delicious burgers and rolls are the winners here!”

The popular Mount Carmel College canteen is currently under renovation. The students there can’t wait to find out what the new canteen will have in store for them!
