WIFI when on KSRTC!
While travelling, we all want to have comfortable seats, pleasant passengers and no delays! But what if you could also watch your favourite series or movies or play your favourite games and check mails while travelling? A recent initiative taken by KSRTC will enable you to use WiFi to make travelling more easier and entertaining. Passengers using the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation services will soon be able to make use of the free WiFi while travelling as well as at bus stations. The KSRTC had signed a three-year contract with a Pune-based company to provide this facility that will allow users to download up to 10 MB data daily. The facility can be used free of cost by commuters.
Network is a problem we face while using public transport and this initiative will solve the problem. Amrith Nachappa, who is student in the city says, “I feel that this initiative will be helpful in many ways. We must all agree that while travelling, the one problem we all face is network. And if this initiative is able to solve this problem then there is nothing like it. If not to make calls, people can use it to check messages on their various social media accounts. I feel it needs to be advertised properly to the target commuters, only then will it be a success.”
The success of this initiative is the router is able to provide good connectivity. Atul Agarwal, a city-based investment banker says, “This a good initiative. The only problem is that 10 MB in today’s world is not enough. Almost everyone owns a smart phone and it uses up a lot of data. The 10 MB that is being provided will be gone within seconds if one wants to read an article. The feasibility of the initiative depends on connectivity too.”
A step up towards making the country more technology friendly, Jyoti Panwar a house wife feels, “To see that technology that was only seen at airports, on KSRTC buses is a good thing. This is step forward to a digital India. Countries abroad have free wifi at almost all public places; it is also a step forward to make India a developed country. It is welcomed by students as they can study while travelling.”
Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation MD, SR Umashankar says, “The main idea of this initiative is to provide entertainment. The router comes pre-loaded with various movies, games, TV shows, and more which is free. Commuters can access this using any smart gadgets. They will also be able to use the Internet. They can use up to 50 mbps free, after which it will be chargeable.”
