Tantalising TENets: Shah and tell on the funny side
On his tour with the East India Comedy to the city recently, stand-up comic Sahil Shah got chatty with us.
How would you describe your comic element?
Quirky and observational.
What’s that one joke that never gets old?
Any joke about my looks. I love self deprecating humour.
What do you do when people don’t laugh at a joke?
I awkwardly stare at them until they laugh. Come on. If I’m laughing at my own joke then I’m sure it must be funny.
The one joke people just cannot take?
There are many. I could tell you. But then you wouldn’t be able to print it.
What types of crowds are the worst to perform for?
Weddings. People at weddings and private parties just don’t give a damn. I might as well be doing a mujra.
One joke bashing Bollywood that might have gotten you into trouble?
We do this show called EIC Vs Bollywood. I had done a joke about xeroxing people. Some people did get a little offended.
How do you fend off hecklers?
You take them down.
You make a living at this?
No. My main profession is stripping!
What would you have been if not a comic?
A time traveller.
Quick, say something funny.?
