202 MPs speak during Zero Hour of Lok Sabha

New Delhi:More than 200 Members of Parliament were given the opportunity to speak on ‘Matters of Public Importance’ during an extended Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, marking a new record for Parliamentary participation.

According to officials, the extension came as part of an initiative by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who had earlier committed during a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting to provide more members with time to raise pressing public concerns.

“Zero Hour continued for over five hours today, allowing 202 MPs to speak. This surpasses the previous record set on July 18, 2019, when 161 members had spoken during an extended session,” an official noted.

The session seemed to reflect a growing emphasis on enhancing legislative participation and ensuring that a wide range of public issues are brought to the floor of the House. Speaker Om Birla's move has been widely appreciated by members across party lines.
