Bengaluru: A 25-feet in height bronze statue of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari (revered as Nada Devi) to come up in Vidhana Soudha western entrance in Bengaluru and the works to sculpt the statue has begun, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after laying foundation for the statue in Bengaluru on Thursday.

The statue of Bhuvaneshwari at Vidhana Soudha is in commemoration of 50 years of renaming of Karnataka from its erstwhile name Mysore State. Siddaramaiah said there is no shortage of funds for the statue work and asked the sculptor to ready the statue before November 1 this year when the State celebrates Kannada Rajyotsava (formation day).

The Chief Minister exuded confidence that the statue of Bhuvaneshwari will inspire the people and help in creation of a Kannada atmosphere in the State. “I think the statue of Bhuvaneshwari will add to the charm of Vidhana Soudha,” said the Chief Minister.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister called upon the people of Karnataka to strive for promotion of Kannada and create a Kannada atmosphere and said “All the people living here should learn Kannada. Kannadigas are not insolents. But, love for Kannada should be developed. We should not become bigots like people in other States. But, we should develop respect and admiration for our language, land and country.”

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said the State Government has not compromised on matters pertaining to Kannada and a legislation has been introduced on the installation of signboards prominently in Kannada in business/commercial establishments in Bengaluru city.
