AP’s community managed natural farming attracts Bangladesh

Vijayawada: A 15-member Bangladesh delegation has started its tour of AP to observe the natural farming processes being implemented under the Andhra Pradesh Community-Managed Natural Farming (APCN) programme.

Members of the delegation visited Krishna district on Friday as part of their four-day tour of Krishna, Eluru and NTR districts. The delegation includes senior officials of Palli Karma Ajjaka Foundation (PKSF), established by the Government of Bangladesh, which has a membership of 1.75 million. The foundation plays a major role in poverty alleviation within Bangladesh.
Incidentally, more than 90 per cent of the organisation's members are women. The organisation partners with different NGOs working in various fields.
Executive vice-chairman of Rythu Sadhikara Samstha (RySS) Vijay Kumar gave a PowerPoint presentation and explained to them the various natural farming methods undertaken in the state. He presented a video on how natural farming had been used to overcome the recent Michaung cyclone.
The Bangladeshi team observed preparation of Beejamritham and liquid bio-fertilisers at a live demonstration organised by officials of the RySS at Bapulapadu village in Krishna district. The team visited a Vegetable Model Farm owned by farmer Ravi Kumar as well as Pulses – Intercrops farm of Ram Mohan Rao in Bapulapadu.
The group attended a Farmer Field School organised in the compact block of Kanumolu village, where nature agriculture is being followed. They visited Rabi crops dry sowing models in Kakulapadu village and the Rythu Bharosa Centre in the same village, where they watched a photo exhibition on natural farms that survived the Michaung cyclone. After that, they held discussions with representatives of Gramaikya Sangam.
The Bangladeshi team touring the state includes Palli Karma Ajjaka Foundation senior general manager Akond Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, general manager Tafiq Hassan Shah Chowdhury, managers Afrin Sultana and Kapil Kumar Paul, assistant managers Md Israel Hossain and Shamsad Farzana, Rural Micro Enterprise Transformation Project deputy project coordinator A.K.M. Zaheerul Islam, Sector Value Chain specialist Md Rafizul Islam, Value Chain Project manager Md Irafam Ali, ICT specialist Sajala Kumar Dali and assistant manager Abu Saleh Rajib.
Thematic leads of RySS Aruna, Ramu Eluri, Suresh and Gopichand were among those who facilitated the visit.
