Babasaheb’s role in uplifting marginalised communities remembered
President Murmu, in her message, said Dr Ambedkar created a distinct identity despite facing extreme hardships and earned global respect through his exceptional achievements.

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu, vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Leaders of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi paid homage to Babasaheb Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. President Droupadi Murmu led the commemoration, laying a wreath at Dr Ambedkar’s statue in the Parliament House complex. In her address, she praised Babasaheb’s vision, saying: “Dr Ambedkar’s commitment to justice inspires us to build an inclusive nation.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed, garlanding Dr Ambedkar’s portrait at a ceremony in New Delhi. He emphasized Babasaheb’s role in uplifting marginalised communities, stating: “His fight for dignity continues to shape our vision for a united India.”

The vice-president, Speaker Om Birla, and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi joined parliamentarians at a special event in the Central Hall of Parliament, where they reflected on Dr Ambedkar’s contributions. Mr Gandhi emphasized Ambedkar’s foresight in crafting a Constitution that protects all citizens, noting: “Babasaheb’s ideals remind us to bridge divides and foster harmony.” Union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Arjun Ram Meghwal also attended, with Mr Meghwal describing Ambedkar as “a beacon of hope for millions”.
Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh, Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta; MPs and former MPs paid floral tribute at Dr Ambedkar’s portrait at the Central Hall. Congress MP and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also paid tribute, and called on people to pledge to protect the Constitution and its values under all circumstances.
In the states, several chief ministers and leaders paid rich tributes to Dr Ambedkar.
