BBMP Seals Post-Office, Bank in Bengaluru over Rent Dues
Bengaluru: Officials concerned of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Saturday sealed the offices of a post-office and Bank of Baroda (BoB), M.G. road branch over non-payment of rent. Both the offices are situated in the ground floor of a public utility building on M.G. road of Bengaluru city.
As per the officials of BBMP, post-office at the building belonging to BBMP had not paid its rent amounting to Rs 2.32 crore including GST and applicable interest. The post-office, as per the officials, failed to pay its rent as per the revision of rent and stuck to pay rent as per 2006 (old).
As per the order of zonal commissioner, BBMP, the post-office was sealed by staff in presence of jurisdictional police. The sealing of the post-office took place at around 6.45 am. The action was initiated after the post-office officials failed to respond to the notices served on them.
The office of Bank of Baroda (previously Vijaya Bank) was also sealed by BBMP staff on the order of zonal commissioner. The Bank failed to pay its rent as per the revised rent and the Bank continued to pay rent to that of 2011 rent fixed which prompted action from BBMP. In addition, Bank of Baroda had not paid rent to BBMP since December, 2022. The Bank is yet to clear Rs 17.56 crore including GST and interest.
