Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s son to foray into politics
Amid growing concerns over Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s health, speculation is mounting within the NDA that his son, Nishant Kumar, could be groomed for a key political role if the alliance retains power.

New Delhi:Amid growing concerns over Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s health, speculation is mounting within the NDA that his son, Nishant Kumar, could be groomed for a key political role if the alliance retains power. Sources reveal that senior BJP officials and close associates of Nitish Kumar are reportedly keen to induct Nishant into politics ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls scheduled for October-November.
The potential entry of Nishant is seen as a strategic move to reinvigorate the JD(U) cadre and appeal to key vote banks, including non-Yadav OBCs, EBCs, and Mahadalit communities — groups that have been central to Nitish Kumar’s electoral success over his nearly two-decade-long tenure. Party insiders suggest that introducing a new face might help the JD(U) recover from its recent electoral setbacks, notably in the 2020 polls when the party's seat tally fell sharply compared to 2015.
Despite Nitish Kumar’s longstanding opposition to dynastic politics, recent developments indicate a shift in strategy as Opposition leaders like Tejashwi and Prashant Kishore question his governing ability amid health concerns. The BJP, which has already pledged to contest the next Assembly election under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar, appears open to accommodating Nishant without undermining its commitment to “Gathbandhan Dharma.”
A reliable party source noted that Nishant’s participation has already been hinted at by his public appearances, including interactions with top JD(U) leaders during recent Holi celebrations at the CM’s residence. As the political narrative unfolds, party strategists are expected to finalise plans for his induction in the coming weeks.
