Modi Says Democracy Won, Intimidation Lost After BJP Wins Falta

Debangshu Panda wins the seat by 1.09 lakh votes

Kolkata: The BJP on Sunday won the Falta Assembly seat in South 24 Parganas, taking its tally in West Bengal to 208 after defeating the Trinamul Congress. TMC candidate Jahangir Khan, who withdrew from the contest on the last day of campaigning but remained on the ballot as the deadline for withdrawal had passed, finished fourth with 7,783 votes.

BJP candidate Debangshu Panda secured 1,49,666 votes and won by a margin of 1,09,021 votes. CPM candidate Shambhu Nath Kurmi finished second with 40,645 votes. Congress candidate Abdur Razzak Molla secured 10,084 votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweets, "People of Falta have spoken! Democracy has won and intimidation has lost. Congratulations to Debangshu Panda Ji for winning in Falta by a record margin. It indicates the unwavering faith of the people of West Bengal towards the BJP. People are seeing the exceptional work of the West Bengal Government across sectors and thus have decided to further bless us. My compliments to all BJP Karyakartas across West Bengal for their outstanding work. We will keep working for West Bengal’s progress in the times to come"
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari welcomed the result and criticised the TMC leadership. “The infamous Diamond Harbour model has become a Haar-Baar model of TMC. The skeleton of an ideology-less party, which turned into a mafia company, has been exposed after losing power,” he said in a post on X.

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee alleged irregularities in the counting process. “By 3.30 pm in the afternoon today all 21 rounds were completed. On May 4, till the same time, only 2-4 rounds had taken place. The country deserves an explanation from the ECI. Although more than 1,000 workers from Falta have been forced to flee their homes in the last 10 days the Election Commission continued to turn a blind eye,” he posted on social media.
