BJP plans grand reception for PM

Chennai: The State BJP has made elaborate arrangements for welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a grand road show after he arrives at Chennai by 4.30 pm on Friday to inaugurate the Khelo India Youth Games at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.

Banners and posters have been made ready for display when the Prime Minister drives through the roads of Chennai after landing at the INS Adyar by helicopter from the airport and cultural events have been organized along the route that he would take to the stadium in Periamet.

The state unit of the party has decided to mobilize crowds from not only Chennai but also the neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram to greet Modi from the roadside, along with the artistes performing cultural events at select points.

BJP functionaries are keen on making use of the Prime Minister’s visit to enthuse their workers and cadre particularly in view of the impending elections to the Lok Sabha. Modi too would be waving at the crowds along the route that he would take through Sivananda Salai, a small stretch of Anna Salai, Chennai Corporation and so on.

Modi would stay overnight at the Raj Bhavan after the inaugural of the Games and leave for Trichy, where he would be visiting the famous Srirangam temple. Then he is expected to go to the holy town of Rameswaran ahead of his visit to Ayodhya to inaugurate the Ram temple on Monday.

On Sunday, he would board a flight from Madurai after concluding his engagements in Chennai and other places in the State to reach New Delhi, from where he would leave for Ayodhya.

The Khelo Games would be formally inaugurated at around 6 pm on Friday in the presence of Governor R N Ravi and Chief Minister M K Stalin at the stadium though the actual events would take place between January 23 and 31 at different venues in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Trichy.

Apart from the 26 sporting events, in which 5500 athletes below the age of 18 would be vying for medals, there would also be 27 demo sports events with the traditional game of Tamil Nadu Silambam featuring among them.
