Karnataka Agri Minister Assures Haveri Farmers of Fertiliser Supply
Haveri: In a move to address the fertilizer shortage in Haveri district, Agriculture Minister N Cheluvaraya Swamy has assured Haveri MP-elect and Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai that he has instructed the agriculture department commissioner to supply the necessary fertilizers to the district.
The assurance comes in response to a letter from Bommai dated May 22, in which he highlighted the urgent need for fertilizers as farmers prepare for sowing following the onset of the monsoon. Bommai reported a significant shortfall in fertilizer availability, leading to a rush- like situation.
According to Bommai, the Haveri district requires 35,000 metric tons of DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) fertilizer for the monsoon season, but only 6,500 metric tons have been supplied so far. He demanded the remaining 29,000 metric tons of DAP, along with 65,000 metric tons of urea and 38,000 metric tons of complex fertilizers.
In response, Minister Swamy confirmed in a letter to Bommai that he has communicated with the agriculture department commissioner to ensure the prompt provision of the required fertilizers to Haveri district, aiming to alleviate the current shortage and support the agricultural activities of the farmers.
