Visakhapatnam: Commissioner of police Dr A. Ravi Shankar said the Burma camp attack was purely personal and had nothing to do with politics.
Addressing a press conference in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, the commissioner confirmed that the altercation was not politically motivated but rather a result of ongoing tensions between two families.
It may be recalled that a violent altercation in the Burma camp between two families on Wednesday drew significant attention after one family claimed they were attacked for their political affiliations. However, police investigations have revealed that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute, not political rivalry.
S. Nooka Ratnam, known as Neerisha, along with her mother Dhana Lakshmi and siblings Ramya and Manikanta, alleged that they were targeted by individuals associated with the opposition party due to their support for the TD-BJP-JS alliance.
Following these accusations, the police initiated a case against five individuals, including Lokesh and his relatives Kanaka Ratnam and Aasha. Leaders from the BJP and Jana Sena extended their support to the victims, fueling initial speculations of political interference in the incident.
Additional police personnel, including a sub-inspector and four constables, were deployed in the Burma camp area to prevent any untoward incidents following the spread of false rumours linking the incident to political parties.
Meanwhile, the MLA candidate of Visakhapatnam North K.K. Raju, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, said the polling went off peacefully due to good policing.
He said the Opposition parties were trying to thrust the blame on the YSRC but the people were aware of the truth.
