Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a high-profile raid at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday over alleged irregularities in its recruitment process. Authorities are investigating claims that contractual employees were being hired and later regularized in violation of norms.
The probe, triggered by multiple corruption-related petitions, has uncovered potential discrepancies in appointment procedures. A nine-member CBI team from the Bhubaneswar unit led the operation, focusing on how five members of a single family allegedly secured permanent positions at the institute.
So far, 27 individuals have been questioned. Investigators suspect that some temporary employees in Bhubaneswar obtained permanent roles using fraudulent documents linked to Ghaziabad and Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The inquiry intensified after allegations surfaced that AIIMS-Bhubaneswar bypassed national recruitment norms by independently conducting hiring tests. The investigation was reportedly prompted by a public notice issued on July 1, 2023, announcing 700 vacancies, which later raised concerns over transparency.
During the five-hour raid at the AIIMS Academic Block, officials seized several crucial documents, according to sources.
