Chhattisgarh to include PMAY houses under Naxal surrender and rehabilitation policy

Raipur: In a first of its kind move in the country, provision of Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) houses has been made in the new Naxal surrender and rehabilitation of policy of the Chhattisgarh government.

The Centre has cleared the Vishnu Deo Sai government’s proposal to allot 1,500 houses under the PMAY to the beneficiaries of the policy.

This was informed by chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday.

“It is a major initiative to encourage the families of the surrendered Naxals and victims of Maoist violence in insurgency-hit areas in the state to join the mainstream of the society. The allotment of PMAY houses is a symbol of their respect in the society and safety”, the chief minister said.

He described the move as a ‘revolutionary step’ in the direction to bring peace as well as prosperity in Chhattisgarh.

Mr Sai exuded confidence that the move would help in achieving the goal of ushering in social equality and development in the state.

Deputy chief minister Vijay Sharma indicated that a mechanism has already been put in place to implement the special housing scheme for the surrendered Naxals and victims of Maoist violence.

The superintendents of police of the Naxal-infested districts will submit the list of surrendered Naxals and victims of Maoist violence to the chief executive officers and zilla panchayats of their areas for identifying land and building houses for them under the special housing scheme.
