According to the data shared by CM Majhi, a total of 2,14,113 criminal cases were registered across the state in 2024, showing an increase from 1,99,954 cases in the previous year, 2023.

Bhubaneswar: In a concerning development, Odisha has witnessed a noticeable rise in criminal cases, with a significant increase in the overall crime rate in 2024. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, who also oversees the home department, presented the latest figures in the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Monday.

According to the data shared by CM Majhi, a total of 2,14,113 criminal cases were registered across the state in 2024, showing an increase from 1,99,954 cases in the previous year, 2023.

The figures indicate a steady upward trajectory in crime rates, which has raised alarms among local residents and authorities alike. CM Majhi provided the statistics in a written response, emphasising the growing challenge of maintaining law and order amid this troubling trend. The Chief Minister acknowledged the complex nature of this issue, noting that various factors are contributing to the surge in criminal activity across Odisha.

While discussing the reasons for the increase in criminal cases, Majhi pointed out several key factors, including rapid population growth, increased reporting of crimes, and the accelerating pace of economic development in the state. He suggested that these factors have created both new opportunities and challenges for law enforcement, making it more difficult to prevent and address crimes effectively.

In light of these rising numbers, CM Majhi called for additional resources, including manpower, advanced technology, and enhanced training for police personnel to improve the efficiency of crime control efforts. He also emphasised the importance of community involvement in tackling crime, urging citizens to actively participate in crime prevention measures and reporting incidents.
