Hyderabad: The cybercrime police booked a person, his associates and several unidentified persons involved in GRE test malpractice for helping foreign aspirants cheat to get a high score.
The police said the accused, Guna Shekar, was identified in a sting operation by the Education Testing Service (ETS), which conducts the test. They are in the process of nabbing the accused.
A case was filed under Section 66(D) of the IT Act and sections 419 and 420 of the IPC.
According to police, the agency conducts TOEFL, GRE and similar entrances for admission to international universities for millions of students globally every year. They said that several such organised cheating rings are operating all over the country, including in Hyderabad.
As a part of their operation, the ETS’ decoy contacted Guna Shekar, who offered help to clear the test for Rs 25,000. As per the agreement, when the decoy took the test, the accused was present in the same room, hiding. He clicked pictures of the questions from the examination screen and shared them with his associates waiting outside. On receiving answers from them, he passed them on to the candidate, who paid Rs 23,000 through UPI.
Along with the complaint, ETS submitted to the police evidence supporting their claims, proof of the payment, conversations and recordings with the accused.
