Belagavi rocked by three rape incidents
Belagavi: The district has been rocked by shocking incidents of rape of three girls, all of whom were forcibly taken away by the accused in separate incidents.
A 19-year-old girl from Hukkeri was forcibly taken away by accused Anand Kamashetty (19), when she was on her way to fetch water from a borewell on May 25 evening. The incident came to light only after a complaint was lodged by her family.
The family stated that she was taken away forcibly by the accused even as she fought back. After arresting Kamashsetty on charges of rape, the police produced him in a local court.
The victim has been admitted to Belagavi civil hospital for treatment.
In the second incident reported from Hidkal, Raibag taluk, the accused had raped a girl and later frightened her to silence.
The accused, Ramesh Sannakinavar (27), has been arrested for allegedly raping the girl by taking her away to a secluded place at Hidkal.
She too was picked up while she was fetching water from a well. The accused had spotted her alone near the well, located at a farm on the village outskirts. According to the police complaint, the accused threatened to kill her if she brought the incident to the notice of her family or the police. A case has been booked against him at Harugeri police station. In the third incident, a minor school girl was allegedly raped at Raibag a few day ago. The accused, Arband Nalband (20), has been arrested by the police.
He reportedly met the girl when she was returning home from school in the afternoon. The girl used to regularly walk to her farm-house from the school.
Aware of her routine, the accused chased her while she was heading home from school a few days ago. Under the pretext of dropping her home, he took the girl on his bike to a nearby forest and allegedly raped her. He abandonned her in the forest after the incident and fled. The girl reached home and informed her family. A case has been registered by the police against the accused.
