Hyderabad: Mafia paints old stamp papers new

Feroz also prepared the new sale deeds and handed them over to the organised gangs involved in land grabbing and cheating cases.

Hyderabad: E-commerce portals selling old non-judicial stamp papers across the country is becoming handy for the organised land mafia who is raking in lakhs of rupees by spending a few hundreds.

The gang procures non-judicial stamp papers dating back to the 1950s and the 60s, erases the content written in ink and makes fresh sale deeds.

The arrest of Feroz Ali of Chanchalguda and eight others by the commissioner’s task force points out to the unhindered availability of the old non-judicial stamp papers which play a crucial role in land grabbing and cheating.

Using the forged land sale deeds, the land mafia cheats genuine property owners, extorts money and approaches the court by contesting the ownership.

“Genuine owners run behind court cases and spend huge money. A few others opt for out-of-court settlement to avoid legal tussles,” said Mr Abu Baker, High Court senior advocate.

Feroz was earlier arrested by the police in February 2016. He continued his activities by adopting the same modus operandi by buying the documents online through e-Bay by paying through his debit card.

Feroz also prepared the new sale deeds and handed them over to the organised gangs involved in land grabbing and cheating cases.

“The police should identify all those who had purchased the documents and prepared forged deals so as to provide respite to genuine property owners,” said Khaja Aijazuddin, High Court advocate.

V. Satyanarayana, DCP (south) said that they are issuing notices to e-Bay, seeking explanation about the sale of the old stamp papers. “It is resulting in law and order problem and litigations,” the DCP said.

“After collecting details of fake documents filed in the court, we will write to the judicial authorities,” he added.
