Congress’ women leaders team up to woo female voters in Munugode

‘Mahila Garjana’ targets 50,000 women at Munugode meeting

HYDERABAD: As part of efforts to buttress the party’s winning chances in the November 3 bypolls, Congress women leaders have teamed up to woo female voters in Munugode. The party is hoping to mobilise around 50,000 women for the public meeting, ‘Mahila Garjana’ to be held in the Munugode mandal headquarter on the last day of campaign on Tuesday.

According to organisers, the meeting will be addressed by former Union minister Renuka Chowdary, former state minister Dr J. Geetha Reddy, MLA Dr Seethakka and scores of other women leaders, apart from party candidate Palvai Sravanthi.
“We are mobilising women from across the constituency. This is aimed at emphasising how women can be a change agents in the democracy and this election has given the opportunity for them to transformation. We expect women from different strata of the society,” former minister R. Damodar Reddy told Deccan Chronicle.

The programme which is expected to start at 11.30 am will continue for about two to three hours. “We are ensuring this public meeting is a success. The ground which is the venue at the Munugode will have arrangements for 50,000 people,” he added.

Meanwhile Sravanthi while campaigning in Choutuppal maintained her pitch and described herself as ‘daughter of Munugode.’ She felt that the bypoll was a fight between her and the BJP-TRS combine.

She said the liquor consumption in Telangana, especially among youth, had increased manifold and had ruined thousands of families. The TRS government had done nothing to provide jobs to the youths but it had turned thousands of them into liquor addicts. “This will change if the Congress wins the Munugode byelection,” she said.
