HC faults OU for Rs 10,000 per subject
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has faulted the Osmania University for imposing penal fees of Rs 10,000 per paper for students of the earlier academic years like 2017-18 for clearing backlog papers of Degree course.
Justice Surepalli Nanda directed the University authorities to reconsider its decision pertaining to imposing penal fees as per the University Standing Committee of Academic Senate.
The Judge was dealing with a petition filed challenging the Notification by the University on 14 November 2022, imposing a penal fee for the students of older batches ( five years ago from the present academic year) to facilitate them to complete their course. It is also submitted that the one-time chance is given by the University beyond the regular duration with an intention to help the students to clear their backlogs. The University's contention was that the six- semester degree course must be completed within five years as per the guidelines of the UGC. However, it is giving the last opportunity to the students , who could not succeed to complete the course in time.
