Andhra Pradesh: Arrests made in gang rape case
Visakhapatnam: Ten persons accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl have been arrested. She was working as a maid in a Navy officer's house near the port quarters. the city police said.
The case arose when a 44-year-old man, working as watchman here but hailing from Panimundra village in Kalahandi district of Odisha had lodged a complaint that his 17-year-old daughter was missing since December 17.
The police traced her to her native village and reunited her with her family here. While she was initially in a state of shock, she broke her silence on Saturday and said she underwent multiple rapes by 10 persons through six days before she fled the city.
One of the accused is Imran, who courted the girl as per a plan hatched by his friend Shoaib. The victim attempted suicide at the RK beach but a photographer, Sharif, chanced on her and led her to endure more rapes in subsequent days.
Sharif, alias Cherry, posing as Raja, raped her with the assistance of Harish, Nagendra and others in a room.
All the accused have been arrested. The cases would be charged under provisions of the POSCO act, police said.
