Parents poison their daughter, burn body in Mysuru

The girl from Vokkaliga community was said to be in love with a Dalit boy.

Mysuru: A shocking incident of honour killing in which the parents killed their daughter for falling in love with a boy from a different community, has been reported in HD Kote police station limits in Mysuru.

Twenty-year-old Sushma, native of Gollanabeedu village in HD Kote taluk, is the deceased and was the eldest of the three daughters of Kumar, an agriculturalist, and his wife Jayanthi.

Mr Rudramuni, ASP Mysuru, who visited Gollanabeedu village and inspected the spot on Thursday, told Deccan Chronicle, “the incident occurred on February 21. Sushma, a girl from the Vokkaliga community, was said to be in love with a 26-year-old boy who belongs to the Dalit community from Alanahahalli village in HD Kote. Hence the parents along with her uncle (younger brother of her father) Kempa, allegedly mixed poison in orange juice and gave it to her to drink on the night of February 21. Though she struggled for life, her parents allegedly do not shift her to hospital and she died at 5 amnext morning. They burnt the body in their agricultural land the same night.” The police officer added, “we received information from our beat police who visited the village and suo motu registered a case on Wednesday. We have arrested her father, Kumar, who confessed that they killed their daughter as she was in love with a boy from a different community.”

A case under section 302 and 201 of IPC has been registered and investigation is on.
