Hyderabad: Nurse dies by suicide due to abuse
Hyderabad: A 46-year-old government nurse, C. Jaya Mercy, died by suicide at her residence in Green Park colony, Karmanghat, under the jurisdiction of the Hayathnagar police station. Mercy, who worked at Osmania General Hospital (OGH), was frequently harassed by her husband, N.S. Raju, and in-laws. Following a heated argument with her husband, she died by suicide. She was taken to a private hospital where she was pronounced dead by doctors.
Mercy had been married to Raju for 19 years and had a 17-year-old son. The ongoing harassment she faced from her husband and in-laws over trivial matters had taken a toll on her mental well-being, police said. On Friday night, the situation escalated, leading to the argument with her husband. When he entered her room later, he found her unconscious with an empty syringe nearby. They rushed her to a private hospital, where the doctors determined that it was a case of poisoning and she had already passed away.
The Hayathnagar police has registered cases against Raju and his family members under Sections 498A (dowry harassment) and 306 (culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code. The victim's body has been moved to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
