School shut after suspicious death of student in Kazipet
ANANTAPUR: Authorities have shut down the Beeram Sridhar Reddy School at Kotha Nellore in Kazipet mandal in Kadapa district on Saturday following the death of a Class VI student in the school’s hostel.
According to information, Suhaith, 11, had been staying in the school’s hostel. He reportedly complained about stomach pain during early hours of Saturday. The school management shifted him to hospital and also informed his parents, who rushed to the hospital.
However, Suhaith died while undergoing treatment. His parents said the boy had injuries on several parts of his body. They suspected that he died of corporal punishment. His parents and relatives staged a protest at the school demanding justice. Various student organisations also joined the protest. Soon, those protesting started pelting stones at the school, damaging the window panes. Police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.
Based on complaints by parents and medical reports from the hospital, Kadapa district educational officer Y. Raghava Reddy ordered closure of the school. He said a five-man committee has been constituted to submit a detailed report on the student’s death.
The DEO directed MEO-1 of Kazipet to lodge a complaint with police about the death of the student.
