Hyderabad: The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) working under the Union Home Ministry has sounded an alert over fake emails in circulation impersonating as CEO I4C and cautioned government employees and other individuals against such emails and not to respond to them.
The emails impersonating CEO-I4C, Rajesh Kumar, a Telangana cadre Senior IPS officer, are delivered with the subject “Urgent Notification!”, “Court Notification”.
Logos of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Intelligence Bureau (IB), and Delhi Police are used in the fake emails and are signed by the CEO of I4C and the particulars of the unit.
“These misleading emails are targeted to various government offices, and individuals and falsely accuse them of cybercrimes, urging them to respond. The logos and emails in question are intentionally fake, deceptive, and created with malicious motives,” the Home Ministry said.
It also clarified that I4C or any other officials have initiated such emails. Further, the agency or its officials have authorised the dissemination of such content.“ Appropriate measures are being taken to address the issue.” added the Home Ministry.
The email mentions that the receivers are involved in cybercrimes involving children and women and warns of serious legal action if they fail to respond to the mail within 24 hours of the receipt of the mail. The mail is also signed by Rajesh Kumar.
