Police bust gang claiming insurance of workers
Warangal: Warangal task force police officials on Tuesday busted a gang whose members had been drawing insurance money of workers granted under the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board schemes using fake challans.
Seven members of the gang have been arrested and Xerox copies of application forms, CPU, monitor, colour printer, a mobile phone and ₹10,000 cash have been from their possession in Warangal.
Those arrested have been identified as Bumihar Bhaskar (36), Bochu Bikshapti (32), Maloth Nehru (40), Maloth Veeraswamy (32), Maloth Ravi (43), Maloth Srinu (40), and Artham Kumaraswamy alias Pedda Babu (48).
Disclosing details to media, police commissioner Tarun Joshi said state government is providing financial aid to poor labourers working in construction sector, who enrol their names and possess identity cards, but lose their lives in accidents while at work.
However, before providing the financial aid, officials concerned carry out primary inquiry to establish the genuineness of the beneficiaries. Police officials said Parkal assistant labour officer Raja Kumari allowed her son-in-law Bhaskar to conduct such inquiries.
Taking advantage of this, Bhaskar appointed agents in Wardhannapet, Raiparthy, Shayampet and Atmakur areas to collect details of workers who have died in accidents without enrolling their names in the labour department. This way, gang members enrolled the names of 29 dead workers in the labour department and claimed the insurance amount by using fake identity cards and other certificates.
Receiving information from credible sources, task force police conducted raids and nabbed the seven members who had been misappropriating the money.
