Telangana stands 21st in crime against kids
Hyderabad: According to the data released by NCRB, there has been an increase in the number of crimes committed against children. A total of 2,909 cases were filed in Telangana in 2016, as compared to 2,797 in 2015, putting the state in 21st position in India.
A similar trend has been noticed in the neighbouring states . Tamil Nadu stands 31st, Kerala 14th Karnataka 19th.
Meanwhile, there has been a decline in such crimes in And-hra Pradesh, which has ranked 32nd in the country. 1,847 cases were reported in 2016, 1,922 were reported in 2015, and 2,059 were reported in 2014.
The nation’s capital, Delhi, is in first place despite the fact that there has been a significant decline in the number of cases.
According to a survey conducted by World Vision India, one in five children is vulnerable to sexual harassment, and one in four families is not willing to file a complaint regarding the sexual abuse of their child.
In Telangana, a total of 1,159 cases were registered un-der the Protection of Children from Sex-ual Offences (Pocso) Act in 2016. 690 cases of rape of minors and 189 cases of sexual assault against children were also registered.
However, these figures may not present an accurate picture of the gravity of the situation as many cases go unreported.
