Hyderabad: Man Held for Posing As Girl on Insta, To Trap Girls
Hyderabad: A man who posed himself as a girl by creating a fake account on social media and was threatening a minor to post her alluring pictures was arrested by the city cybercrime police on Wednesday.
The accused, S. Jishnu Kirthan Reddy, a resident of Medchal, created a fake Instagram account using a girl’s name and was blackmailing and trapping many girls to send their private pictures and videos, police said.
Jishnu used to make the victims believe to get closer to them during chatting, collect their pictures and videos and then blackmail them by posting their alluring pictures on social media when they refuse to send their pictures, police said.
Police received a complaint from victim’s mother in which she stated that one unknown person was harassing her daughter. Based on the complaint, the cyber crime team registered a case under relevant sections of the Pocso Act, police said.
A special team headed by Palle Padma, inspector and under the direct supervision of DCP (cyber crimes) Shilpavalli arrested the accused.
“Young girls and women are advised not to chat or share any private pictures or information with strangers or unknown persons,” A.V. Ranganath, joint commissioner of police, CCS said. They were advised to keep their social media handles in private view. The cyber crime team advised them not to panic and to reach the nearest police station or cybercrime police station for immediate assistance.
