Senior citizen posing as ex-CBI official arrested in Vizag
Visakhapatnam: A 66-year-old railway passenger from Hyderabad, posing himself as ex-CBI official, was arrested after he was found availing train travel concessions by showing a fake disease certificate.
He had repeatedly prevailed on the railway staff to issue tickets for him on an urgent basis. The Railway Police and the anti-fraud team of Waltair Railway Division (WRD) jointly acted and caught him in Vizag.
The accused Trinadh Murthy of Hyderabad recently booked his ticket for travel in the Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam Godavari Express by submitting the copy of a certificate purportedly issued by a city-based government hospital, which stated that he was a cancer patient. He travelled from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam on Sept 30 - Oct 1.
As the train reached the Visakhapatnam station, the railway's inspection staff found Murty travelling in a coach with a reserved concession ticket. “He was subsequently arrested and booked under sections of the IPC for cheating and forgery,” the railway police said.
Waltair railway divisional manager Anup Satpathy said the railways provide concessional tickets to those with listed disabilities or chronic diseases. “We will take action against those who misuse the facility.”
When railway officials questioned him, he allegedly claimed he was an ex-CBI official. This proved to be wrong.
He was sent to the government railway police in Visakhapatnam for further proceedings.
