Honour killing, not suicide, says post mortem report of girl
Tirupati: Police in Chandragiri said the autopsy has helped crack a case of what initially looked like a girls’ suicide. The report led to a conclusion that the 19-year-old girl, found hanging in her home, was a victim of honour-killing resorted to by her father.
According to the police, Mohana Krishna was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home in Reddyvaripalle under Chandragiri mandal on July 7. The police first recorded it as ‘possible suicide,’ based on a statement from her father Muni Raja. However, the autopsy report that came a couple of days ago, made clear that the girl was strangled to death.
During the investigation, police found that Mohana was in love with Vikas of Anjaneya Puram village for the past five years. They were from different castes and the girl’s family was against the relationship.
The family had told Mohan Krishna to stay away from the boy when she presented her marriage proposal before them.
Police said, “Following the autopsy report, we altered the suicide case into a murder case and expedited the investigation. We found out that the girl’s father, Muni Raja, opposed the relationship. Mohana persisted with her plan. The furious father strangled her to death and then hanged her from a ceiling fan in their house.”
It is learnt that the police higher-ups expressed displeasure over the delay in processing the post mortem report. It took five months to complete the post- mortem report.
The police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused father, who is at large.
