2 youngsters drown in Srikurmam temple pond
Visakhapatnam: Two youngsters have drowned in a temple pond (Swetha Pushkarini) at Srikurmam temple under Gara police station limits in Srikakulam district. The two were taking a holy dip to perform the “Pinda Pradanam” ritual for their late grandfather on Friday morning.
The deceased were K. Janardhana Rao (20), a resident of Rayagada district in Odisha and Patnala Arun Kumar (25) alias Naveen Kumar, a native of Gajularega area in Vizianagaram district.
The two came to Srikurmam temple to perform the Pinda Pradanam ritual for their late grandfather V. Subba Rao on Friday morning and they stepped into the temple tank to take a holy dip at around 7.45 am and drowned. The locals in the area have warned the duo against going deep into the tank, but the two paid no heed. The locals tried to rescue the duo, but in vain. Gara police has rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the water and sent them to the RIMS in Srikakulam for post-mortem. The cops have registered a case and investigating upon receiving information about the tragic incident.
