AP police seize liquor, drugs worth ₹12.66 crore

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh police have seized illicitly distilled liquor, non-duty paid liquor, drugs, other valuables and cash, all worth ₹12.66 crore by setting up a close vigil along AP and Karnataka border from March 29 to May 2.

As Karnataka is going to polls on May 10, AP police have set up 57 integrated check posts at inter-state borders covering Kurnool, Anantapur, Satya Sai, Chittoor and Annamayya districts. Their aim is to stop illegal transportation of liquor, drugs, valuables or cash through 44 mandals under the limits of 47 police stations.

AP DGP K.V. Rajendranath Reddy, in a statement issued here on Wednesday, said the inter-state integrated check posts cover Chitradurga, Bellary, Rayachuru, Chandru, Kolar, Chikballapura and KGF districts of Karnataka.

The DGP said they have seized 33 cases amounting to 958 litres of ID liquor, 200 cases (3,416 litres) of non-duty paid liquor, 4,935 kg of ganja, two cookers and cash of ₹1,850, all together worth ₹12,66,55,614.

Rajendranath Reddy said that 748 persons have been bound over and 16 non-bailable warrants issued against people with history of poll-related violence. Further, they made sure that 517 licenced weapons are deposited within their respective police stations.
