Hyderabad: Biker in critical condition after being hit by drunk car driver

Hyderabad: A 22-year-old Mohd Aamir Hussain, who has just completed his graduation and is preparing for higher studies in the United States, was severely injured, when a high-end car driven by a youngster allegedly in an intoxicated condition, hit him at Banjara Hills under Masab Tank PS limits, in the early hours of Friday. Hussain suffered a severe head injury, had 28 sutures and remains in a critical condition in a private hospital.

Shreyas Reddy, who was driving the car and is from Gandipet, is pursuing Masters in the US. He came home for a vacation a few days back. Police seized two filters allegedly used for consuming weed from his Audi.

Hussain, a resident of King Koti, was on a bike, going to meet his cousin. Shreyas Reddy, on a long drive with some friends, was moving in the opposite direction. While negotiating a U-turn, Reddy lost control and hit the bike from the rear at a high speed. The impact was such that Hussain was thrown off the bike a few metres away. His bike and the car’s front portion were both damaged. Hussain was rushed to a private hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.

Masab Tank station house officer S. Koteshwar Rao said that prima facie rash driving had resulted in the accident.

“We have collected blood samples from the accused and sent them for examination. Some material used for consuming weed was also seized from the vehicle. Further investigation will be based on the medical reports and other evidence,” he said.

Shreyas Reddy has been detained and the car registered in the name of his father Ravichandra Reddy, a businessman in the infrastructure space, has been seized.

Victim’s kin demand stringent action against driver

The family of Aamir Hussain, 22, injured in a car accident, claimed that eight youngsters in two high-end cars were in an inebriated condition and police have seized materials used for consuming weed from the vehicle that hit Hussain.

They demanded strict action against the accused persons. “We strongly feel that they are associated with some politician’s family and are trying to dilute the case,” they claimed.

After the accident, all the boys ran into the house and hid there for a long time and police were giving them protection, ignoring their suffering, a family member of Hussain told ‘Deccan Chronicle’.

His uncle Mohd Asif, a businessman, said that the cops initially were soft towards the boys. But later after much pressure, they started getting tough.

“We urge police to get details of where they had consumed alcohol or whatever drug, and how they were allowed to drive in such conditions,” he said.

“He was planning to study abroad and join his family business but just because of some irresponsible drunk persons, he is in a critical stage. They should be punished strictly,” said Aamir’s cousin, Mohd Nayeem Siddiqui.

They feared that Reddy’s family could influence and dilute the case.

Accused took ‘shelter’ in MP’s house

After hitting the bike of Aamir Hussain, car driver Shreyas Reddy and his friends, fearing assault by passersby, ran into the by-lanes and entered a house owned by BRS Chevella MP G. Ranjith Reddy. Police said an inquiry revealed they are not related to the MP.

Prima facie it was found that after hitting the car, Reddy and his friends shifted him to a hospital. Meanwhile, a crowd gathered and confronted the group, which resulted in an argument.

When the argument was taking a violent turn, the accused ran into one of the lanes and entered a house, which was later found that it belonged to a MP. Meanwhile, police rushed to the spot and dispersed the crowd, but Aamir’s relatives protested and demanded action against all eight friends.

Police allowed them to stay inside and only after the relatives were convinced, shifted the accused to the PS. “ The situation was highly charged and there was every possibility that the crowd could have assaulted the accused and it would have turned into a more serious issue. To prevent this, they were allowed to stay put for some time,” cops said.
