SC upholds AP HC order granting bail to 79 TD activists in Angallu violence case

The 79 TD activists were arrested in connection with the violence that broke out in Angallu, Chittoor district

Vijayawada: The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the Andhra Pradesh High Court's order granting bail to 79 Telugu Desam (TD) leaders and supporters in the Angallu violence case. The AP government had challenged the HC order in the apex court, but the SC refused to intervene.

The 79 TD activists were arrested in connection with the violence that broke out in Angallu, Chittoor district, in January 2023, when TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu was on his way to Punganur to visit irrigation projects. The violence reportedly involved supporters of the TD and the ruling YSRC.

The AP government had argued in the SC that the TD activists had indulged in serious violence and that they should not be granted bail. However, the SC ruled that the HC had rightly granted bail to the activists, considering the facts and circumstances of the case.
