Kerala: Boat engine stalled, passengers rescued

Kannur: Thirty-eight passengers of a ferry boat off Azhikkal port had a miraculous escape when its engine stopped working and the boat floated towards the sea on Sunday noon. Fishermen who came in fibre boats hearing the cries of the passengers saved all of them, including women.The ferry was headed towards Mattungal. However, the locals later protested in front of the coastal police station for reaching late for the rescue operations. They said that the station had 38 staff and three (Jeevan Raksha) life-saving boats.
