KOTTAYAM: The Crime Branch is yet to submit the chargesheet in the murder case of Mahadevan, 13, of Madhumoola near Changannassery in 1995, though the CB had taken over the probe two years ago. Mahadevan, son of Viswanathan Achary, had gone missing on October 10, 1995. Harikumar, the prime accused in the case, confessed to the police in February 2014 that he had murdered him to take away his gold chain.
The accused, who also confessed to have murdered Salimon, his accomplice, is now on bail due to the delay in filing the chargesheet. Sources from the hurt and homicide wing of the Crime Branch, Ernakulam unit, which is probing the two murder cases, said that the investigation was in the final stage. “We cannot say when the chargesheets will be presented in the court,” Mr P.K. Madhu, superintendent of police, hurt and homicide wing, told DC.
The breakthrough in the case came after a worker at Achari’s provision shop said he had seen Mahadevan going to Harikumar’s cycle shop for repairing his cycle. The Crime Branch found that the accused had strangled the boy and dumped the body at a granite quarry at Mariyapally, near here, after removing his gold chain.
He also killed Salimon by poisoning him since he blackmailed him threatening to reveal the crime. Salimon had helped him in disposing of the body. The Crime Branch investigation began in February 2014 after unearthing the bones and skulls of the victim. Achari died in 2006 and his wife Vijayalakshmi in 2011.
