Armed robbers loot, assault passengers in 3 trains in Uttar Pradesh
Kanpur: Armed robbers struck three trains passing through the district, looting at least 12 passengers and assaulting those who resisted them in the wee hours on Wednesday.
Government Railway Police said the robbers first barged into the Mumbai-bound Lucknow-LTT Express and started looting passengers.
When one of the passengers Ramashankar Pandey resisted the robbery bid, he was thrashed by the robbers, a GRP spokesperson said.
The accused then boarded the Vaishali Express and robbed passengers travelling in the sleeper class. They also attacked and injured Devi Singh, who was going to Gorakhpur, when he protested their act, he said.
Later, they robbed passengers of Lucknow-Kanpur passenger train and beat up Unnao-resident Lala, the spokesperson said. The robbers escaped after looting the passengers.
As the incident took place between Unnao and Kanpur districts, GRP officials were busy deciding the jurisdiction. Later, Kanpur GRP sent the three injured to railways' Kamla Nehru Hospital.
At least 12 passengers in the three trains were robbed, Kanpur GRP in-charge Shyamvrat Yadav said.
Out of the three injured, two were sent home after first aid while one of them is admitted to the hospital, he said.
An FIR has been registered in the matter by Government Railway Police, he said, adding the number of passengers robbed and booty taken away is yet to be ascertained.
