Drunk engineering student arrested for January 1 hit and run
Hyderabad: Banjara Hills police on Thursday arrested K. Pranav, an engineering student, who, in a drunken condition, knocked down two persons with his car on Sunday early morning. His friend P Srivardhan Rao, who was with him in the car, is still in hospital.
Pranav told police that there was poor visibility due to fog, and he could not see the victims — Bheemavarapu Eswari, 55, and Avidi Sreenu, 50, — and rammed into them, it was learnt.
Pranav was also injured in the accident. Soon after his discharge from hospital, police arrested him and produced him before the court for judicial remand.
Inquiries revealed that on Saturday night, Pranav and Srivardhan Rao went to a friend’s flat in Madhapur, where some others joined them. They partied till the wee hours of Sunday, after which Pranav and Rao started for home.
Police found that when they were nearing Royal Tiffin opposite Green Mosque, Pranav, who was behind the wheel, hit two persons crossing the road, killing them on the spot.
The accused said that he could not remember anything that happened after the incident. His vehicle rammed into two more vehicles parked on the roadside.
