Poacher from Kerala nabbed in Madikeri
BENGALURU: A poacher from Kerala was nabbed by the forest officials of Talacauvery Wildlife Sanctuary in Madikeri late on Saturday while other associates of the accused managed to escape in the cover of darkness. Forest officials recovered two country made-rifles from the accused. Talacauvery Wildlife Sanctuary shares its border with Kerala.
Forest officials told Deccan Chronicle on Monday that four poachers from Kerala had made their way into the Sanctuary with country made rifles to hunt deers. They fired a gun shot and it was heard by forest personnel who went in search of the gun shot.
The patrolling forest officials came cross poachers under the influence of liquor at Chandettu Kolli area of the Sanctuary and nabbed one poacher identified as Jisnhu (28), a resident of Kannur while his associates identified as Chakuvadakan, Pradeep and Arun, all belonging to Kannur escaped.
Sources said the group used to often enter the Sanctuary in search of animals and after poaching animals such as deer, barking deer, wild boars among others used to extract flesh from the carcass for self-consumption. It is suspected that the surplus flesh from the poached animals were supplied to hotels in Kerala.
In the nabbing of the poacher, Range Forest Officer Kotreesh, personnel Anand, Yateesh and others participated.
