Cabbie attacked, cab stolen

HYDERABAD: Two passengers assaulted 21-year-old cab driver Mirza Azam Baig and made away with his vehicle, early on Thursday. Police said the duo had booked the cab from LB Nagar to the Shamshabad airport at 12.45 am on Thursday.

When they reached an isolated stretch at Pahadishareef, police said, the accused asked Baig to stop the vehicle as they had to relieve themselves. When he said he would stop at a place where there is some vehicular movement, one of the accused sitting in the front seat pulled out a sharp metal object and tried to attack Baig.

Baig swerved to the right and tried to jump out, even as the accused attacked him. As he fell on the road, the duo took over the car and took a U-turn. On seeing this, Baig tried to stop them but they attempted to run over him and sped away.

Baig received a severe injury on the head and was undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

Pahadishareef inspector Kashi Vishwanath said a robbery case had been registered against the duo and a hunt was on to nab them.
