The police zeroed in on Bonala Obaiah alias Obanna after it was established that he lured the girl into his house by offering her chocolate and raped her. He murdered the girl inside the house and took the body to Jinkala Vanka on the outskirts of the village and buried it. The court said the charges were proven against him. (Representational image)
Hyderabad: Judge Y. Jayaprasad at the LB Nagar criminal court sentenced a man, Anthati Shekar, to life imprisonment for murdering a BTech student, Maddipatla Divya, with a baseball bat at his house in Vanasthalipuram on September 19, 2010.
Police said Shekar saw messages from another person in the mobile phone of Divya, a native of Kolkata, and murdered her.
Police said Shekar had pre-planned the murder and had invited Divya to his house with an intention to kill her.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Shekar who was shifted to the Cherlapally central prison.
