Neighbours thought Rupesh was strange as the couple never talked with anyone
Hyderabad: The neighbours of Rupesh Kumar Mohanani at the Jain Shilpa Cyberview Apartments in a posh area of Hi-Tech City had always felt that he was a strange man.
He and his wife never used to interact with any others in the apartment complex. In their one-and-a-half years stay at the apartment, the couple talked to their next door neighbours just twice.
None of the neighbours knew about the gruesome murder till the police walked into the apartment with Rupesh on Monday midnight. Now, an uneasy calm prevails in the building.
Rupesh, hailing from Agra, went to Congo in 1999 to take up the job of a salesman in a departmental store. During his stay in Congo, he used to visit a club named Malibu, where he met Cynthia, where she was working as a dancer.
They fell in love and got married after two years. They stayed in Congo till 2012 and had a baby girl. They then shifted to Hyderabad and started living in Gachibowli, the relatives of Rupesh said.
After Rupesh and his wife shifted to Jain Shilpa Cyberview Apartments, the other residents have seen them interacting with others only during a Diwali celebration.
“He never used to talk. Cynthia knew only French and could not English. She talked to me once when they were moving into the flat one-and-a-half years ago. She told me it was hard for her to communicate with others due to the language problem,” said their next door neighbour.
“Their kid, Sania, often used to come to my home and play with my child. But, the couple never came to our house,” she added.
The apartment’s watchman, Pranab Kalita, says that Rupesh used to drop his kid at the gate for her school bus and quietly go out. “On Sunday evening, I saw the couple going out with their kid. They returned at 9 pm. After that I did not see the woman,” he said.
Neighbours say that Cynthia's brother used to come and stay with them sometimes. Police said that her brother was studying in a private college in Hyderabad.
