Rohingyas obtain Aadhaar, passport, held

Accused planned trip to Malaysia to earn a more money.

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police arrested three of a family from Myanmar on Thursday for procuring Aadhaar cards and a passport by producing fake documents.

Mohammed Younus, 22, hailing from Myanmar came to Hyderabad along with parents Mohammed Naseem 49, Saleema Begum 48, and younger brother Mohammed Ismail about five years ago, as refugees. They were given identity cards by UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).

Naseem, Younus, and Ismail were working as daily wage construction contractors and earned about Rs 300 to Rs 400 per day. Their poor financial condition forced Younus to find other ways of earning.

Being a refugee, he could not get other jobs and thought of flying abroad for employment. He got to know through friends that he can earn a lot more by doing the same job in Malaysia and planned to fly there.

“With the help of one Kathija, Younus approached the management of Crescent School at Balapur to get a study certificate. The school principal Mohammed Khaliq issued a bonafide that Younus was a student of the school and studied till Class X, after the latter paid money. He then obtained a date of birth certificate, a Voter id, Aadhaar card and a Passport,” said Balapur sub-inspector P. Naga Raju, who investigated the case.

He also managed to arrange for voter id and Aadhaar cards for his parents and brother. The S-I said, "Younus wanted to leave for Malaysia as the money he was earning here was not sufficient. However, further probe has to be done to find how much he paid to get the bonafide from Khaliq."

The S-I said that Younus, his mother Saleema and father Naseem have been arrested and their id cards have been seized along with their bank account passbooks and Younus's passport. A hunt is on to nab Ismail, Kathija, and Khaliq.

In a similar case busted by the Balapur police during May, the accused managed to get rental agreements from some agents using which they obtained an Aadhaar card and arrested two persons willing to go to Malaysia for employment by getting fake passports.

So far, the Rachakonda police have arrested about 30 Rohingya refugees who have managed to get an Indian passport and other identification cards.
