Police association condemns attacks on cops in Punganur
VIJAYAWADA: AP Police Officers Association (APPOA) on Saturday condemned the attack on policemen in Punganur and demanded arrest of all those involved in the attack.
Association president Janukula Srinivasa Rao alleged that the pre-planned attacks appear part of a conspiracy and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
Addressing the media here, he accused Telugu Desam supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu of instigating his party activists to assault policemen, who had been deployed to maintain law and order in the area. As a result, 50 cops sustained injuries, with many of them admitted to the hospital with severe injuries.
The APPOA president asked Chandrababu Naidu, who has 14 years of experience as CM, as to what could have happened if police had lost their cool. He pointed out that lathis, rods and knives had been found in the vehicles of TD activists.
APPOA leader Somasekhar Reddy underlined that as per his itinerary, Naidu should have gone from Madanapalle to Palamaner using the highway. But with the intention of creating trouble, TD activists entered the town and started attacking police who tried to stop them.
Association vice-president K. Nagini turned emotional saying their families are gripped with fear until they return home from bandobast duties. She said despite having families, police risk everything to maintain law and order.
