Thane: A four-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a 19-year-old youth who was arrested from the Kalyan township on Monday, police said.
The youth has been identified as Gunjesh Tiwari, a distant relative of the girl's mother, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred early on Monday when Tiwari picked up the child, who was sleeping near her mother in Kailasnagar locality, took her to a nearby place and raped her, police PRO Sukhada Narkar said. Tiwari sells garments for living.
The girl's mother lodged a complaint with the police, which arrested Tiwari on Monday after examining the footage of a CCTV camera installed in the area.
Tiwari has been booked for rape and under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
